New Website!
We’re so excited to launch our brand new official CSTA website in tandem with the new national site! By acting quickly, you can help us receive a chapter grant. The chapters with the most members at the end of May 3, 10, and 17 will win $1,000.

Check it out! https://alberta.csteachers.org/

You’ll receive an email from CSTA to update your profile and access your account today, May 1. Once your email comes, follow the steps in the email to gain access to all of your member benefits.

Please note, I will also be moving the semi-regular email over to this bulletin format, so adding yourself to the chapter will also make it easier for the group to continue to grow without having a massive Google Group. - Mickey

Teacher Spotlight

Said El Mejdani

How did you get involved in computer science and computer science education?

I start teaching in 1994 I was teaching Math with background in pure Math, in 2002 I came to Canada (Quebec) as Immigrant and I done a Master degree in computer
Science and four year research in pattern recognition. I start teaching Math and Sciences In ecole Boreal In Fort McMurray I wasn’t teaching Computer Science but ponctualy helping by teaching things for students doing personal projects. One day I was approached by a student who want to learn C++ for a project, I asked him to come after school and instead of having one student I had 15, we start a coding club the Westwood Coders who become Youth computing : https://youthcomputing.ca/

What do you like about your current program and/or what are you hoping for the future?

I start officially teaching Computer science in 2015 and from one Option class it become 12 different option classes and 3 different Club the newest is Queen In Code groupe of girls in STEM.
I like that the students are going beyond the class staff and trying the create and innovate solutions for existing problems using technology.

Is there an interesting project, idea, tool, resource, etc that you would like to share with the group?

I love to make computational Thinking a solid part of any of the computer Science Option classes that I teach I love to uses Project Euler : https://projecteuler.net/archives
For info Security Bandit:
and also Leviathan:

Also I love to start coding since grade 7 with Python and having the basics in grade 10 they learn Python extension so they could go to OpenCV, Machine Learning , ...etc some example of project done by grade 10 this school year for Science fair using Technology could be find here:
